Biography
Colette Balmer gained a B.Sc honours degree in Microbiology in 1979, and then studied Dentistry at Leeds Dental School, qualifying in 1983. She gained her FDS (Edinburgh) in 1987 and followed a clinical career in oral surgery and is currently a Consultant in Oral Surgery at Liverpool University Dental Hospital. She has always been actively involved in the teaching of dental undergraduates, dental postgraduates and DCPs and has a Postgraduate Teaching Certificate , Diploma and Masters in Clinical Education , is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an honorary clinical lecturer and Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean. Her major educational interests are the development of competency workplace based assessments and portfolios, she was the secondary care representative on the national Dental Foundation Portfolio working group; was one of the appointed members of the national mapping and curriculum group for the ISCP programme in Oral Surgery and is the DF2 representative on the National Advisory Board for Foundation Training in Dentistry and chair of the portfolio national subgroup She is an elected member of the British Association of Oral Surgeons Council, sits on the educational subgroup, and is a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Oral Surgery.
