Ian John Hart is Consultant Medical Virologist and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and the University of Liverpool. After studying Virology and Immunology at the University of Bristol he studied medicine at the University of Birmingham. After general medical training in Birmingham and Southampton and a period of time as a Leukaemia Research Fund Clinical Research Fellow (PhD in Immunology, University of Southampton), he spent 6 years in London as a Clinical Lecturer in Immunology (King’s College) and Specialist Registrar in Medical Virology (St. Bartholomew’s and Royal London Hospitals). He was appointed as Consultant and Clinical Lead for Virology at the Liverpool Specialist Virology Centre, Royal Liverpool University Hospital in 2001. His clinical and research interests include diagnostic virology, viral infections in the immunocompromised host, viral infections of brain and eye and infection control.
