Lakshminarayan Ranganath is Consultant/Reader in Chemical Pathology at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital (RLUH) & University of Liverpool (UoL). He studied medicine at Madras Medical College (India) completing his postgraduate studies in General Medicine also in Madras. In UK he trained in the SW Thames Region in Chemical Pathology developing a research interest in incretins. He joined RLUH and UoL in 1999. His clinical interests include hyperlipidaemias and metabolic bone disease. He is the Training Programme Director at Mersey Deanery. His research interests include incretin biology including translational research in diabetes, obesity, and sepsis. He has supervised 5 PhD students and several MSc research projects. He has pioneered excellence in Alkaptonuria since 2003 as a co-founder of the Alkaptonuria Society (UK). He is the Clinical Director of the newly established National Alkaptonuria Centre from April 2012 at RLUH. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters.
