Paul Rooney qualified from Sheffield University in 1984 and undertook Training of colorectal surgery in Nottingham from 1988-1996.

Undertook Clinical Fellowship at the University of Toronto in 1994.
He was appointed Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool Hospital in 1996 which concentrated on the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, in particular, ileoanal pouch surgery and Crohn’s disease together with being Colorectal Cancer Lead since his appointment.
He has been Chair of the Merseyside & Cheshire Network and a council member of the Association of Coloproctology of GB&I.
Captain of West Lancashire Golf Club with a handicap of 2.
