Upper GI means Upper Gastro Intestine. This is the stomach and the gullet or wind pipe.

This page gives you information about all the different services for people with problems with their upper gastro intestine.

It has information about the staff involved and how to contact the different parts of the service.

 

The upper GI services are a specialist centre and a tertiary referral unit. It is part of the regional Upper GI multidisciplinary cancer network that works in close collaboration with the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Whiston Hospital, Warrington Hospital and the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.

We offer a wide range of specialist out-patient clinics including the two week upper GI suspected cancer service, Barrett’s & Dysphagia Clinic etc.. We perform an extensive range of endoscopic Upper GI techniques and therapy including;

  • advanced trimodal imaging (autofluorescence & narrow-band with magnification)
  • chromoendoscopy
  • endoscopic ultrasound
  • oesophageal dilatation
  • oesophageal and gastric outlet stenting
  • Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)
  • thermal tumour ablation with argon plasma coagulation
  • laser therapy
  • HALO Radiofrequency ablation
