Our plans to build a new Royal
We are planning to replace the existing Royal with a new state-of-the-art hospital and we now have the support of the Government to do this.
A new hospital will help us to deliver our vision of world class services and hospitals that are recognised as those of choice for the people of Merseyside,

The support of local NHS organisations and the SHA in the summer of 2009 meant that we were able to submit our Outline Business Case – which has been developed over the past five years - to the Department of Health (DH) for consideration.
At the end of March 2010, the former Secretary of State for Health, Andy Burnham, announced that the Department of Health and Treasury had give their approval to our plans to build a new Royal.
Following the Government's national spending review, the scheme was confirmed by Andrew Lansley, Secretary of State for Health, in June 2010.
Following this, the project to build a new hospital has moved on to the next phase of development, which is securing a construction partner and are currently assessing detailed proposals from our two final bidders.
We published our Outline Business Case in 2010. You can read it by clicking here.
