The process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully.

Child Looked After (CLA)

If through a child's life they become subject to Child Protection Proceedings that result in them being either removed from the family or having parental responsibility held by the Local Auhtority, there is a responsibility to ensure, by Health, that they are reviewed annually to enable optimal life chances to progress successfully into adult life.

When to Refer to Safeguarding

  • Any child/young person who attends A&E with drug/alcohol misuse issues, dog bites, etc.
  • Any child/young person who attends following involvement in knife or gun crime (gangs).
  • Any child/young person who attends following an assault.
  • If you witness any adult/child interaction that you feel is inappropriate e.g. physical harm, verbal abuse, etc.
