What we do

Radiology provides a high quality rapid response diagnostic service to patients in the local community.

We are a small team of radiographers (x-rays) and sonographers (ultrasound scanning), supported by radiographic assistants and administration staff.

We provide direct access plain film radiography (x-rays) for all ages and non obstetric ultrasound scanning for patients aged 16 years and over.

X-Rays: Monday to Friday - 8.30am to 5.00pm. (Doors close at 4.45 pm)
No appointment necessary.

Ultrasound: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday – 8.40am to 5.00pm.
By appointment only – appointment letters will be sent out after we receive a GP referral form.

Ultrasound: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - 8.40am to 5.00pm.
By appointment only – a telephone booking service is in operation with phones manned every afternoon Monday to Friday.

Referrals

X-rays

All patients have to be referred for x-rays and you will be given an x-ray request form to bring to the department with you when you attend.

The York Centre accepts x-ray referrals from:

  • General Practitioners (GPs)
  • Smithdown Childrens Walk-in Centre (for minor injuries)
  • TB contact chest clinic

South Liverpool NHS treatment Centre accepts x-ray referrals from:

  • General Practitioners (GPs)
  • The Primary Care Treatment Centre (for minor injuries)

Non Obstetric Ultrasound scanning

All patients have to be referred by their GP for non obstetric ultrasound scanning. Your referral form will be faxed or posted to the service by your GP. You will then receive an appointment letter a few days later.
