Consultant Ophthalmologist - vitreoretinal surgery
Miss Sandinha graduated in Medicine from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, where she commenced her ophthalmology training before moving to the UK. She completed her ophthalmic surgical training at Glasgow University Hospital followed by 3 years of specialist vitreoretinal surgical fellowship training at Flinders University Hospital, South Australia, St Paul’s Eye Unit and Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, London. In addition to her clinical experience, Miss Sandinha completed research in the cytogenetics of choroidal melanomas and her research culminated in the award of a Doctorate from the University of Glasgow in 2007. Miss Sandinha also did a fellowship in ocular oncology at St Paul’s Eye Unit. She was appointed as Consultant at Sunderland Eye Infirmary in 2012 but has moved back to St Paul’s as a consultant in July 2018.
During her consultant job, she has been actively involved in research and with medical education and training, including in developing countries through various charities.
