Primary Care at St Paul's Eye Unit is the accident and emergency unit (A&E) for eyes.
Primary Care is located on the ground floor of the hospital, in the main reception area, to the left of the front entrance.
What we do
You do not need an appointment to attend the Primary Care department. On arrival you will be triaged (assessed) by a senior nurse, and then you will be:
- seen by either a nurse practitioner or doctor on the day, or
- referred back to your GP, or
- your notes may be sent to a consultant for a possible appointment at a later date.
Please note that more serious cases will be prioritised, and that at busy times you may have to wait to see a nurse or doctor.
Following your consultation you will either be referred to a specialist service (the reception team will arrange your appointment) or you will be discharged. A letter will also be sent to your GP regarding your attendance, diagnosis and any treatment you have had.
