To promote dignity and respect of all patients you are requested to only visit your relative during mealtimes to assist them with their dietary needs on request. The ward operates a protected mealtimes policy. The policy aims to provide mealtimes free from avoidable and unnecessary interruptions and to provide a quiet and relaxed atmosphere which is conducive to eating.

On admission the nurse admitting you or your relative will ask them their likes/dislikes, this is to help us understand your needs or your relative’s needs. The ward hostess will serve meals from the hostess trolley. We request that if you are assisting your relative with their meals that you do not approach the food trolley for hygiene and infection control reasons. Hostess will ask you to complete a menu everyday with your meal choice.

If your relative is on a special diet, or requires a soft or pureed diet please ensure you inform nursing staff who will order this for them. Visitors are advised not to bring in alcohol or take-away meals. Foods that require refrigeration should be handed to nursing staff to be stored in the ward fridge until use.
