Upper GI Cancer Clinic
Out-patient service that reviews all patients with newly diagnosed gastro-oesophageal cancer within 1 week and follow up patients with the diagnoses regularly with their personalised treatment plans
Barrett’s Clinic and Surveillance
Out-patient service that reviews patients with Barrett’s on presentation, provides information and patient education before entering them into a surveillance programme as recommended by the BSG
Open Access Upper GI Endoscopy
Out-patient GP access for any of their patients for routine diagnostic endoscopy
Rapid Access-Colorectal Services
Rapid access service for patient with suspected colorectal cancer. All patients are reviewed within 2 weeks

Out-patient clinic for patient with Inflammatory bowel disease and other colorectal symptoms or diseases
Quiescent IBD Clinic
A nurse led out-patient service for IBD patients with stable or no symptoms
IBD-Immunosuppression/Blood Monitoring Clinic
A nurse led clinic for patients starting immunosuppression like azathioprine for monitoring their response to treatment and blood tests
Out-patient Access Flexible, Sigmoidoscopy (OAFS)
Out-patient service where GPs can directly book patients for a flexible sigmoidoscopy with rectal bleeding. Haemorrhoid banding can be offered if appropriate
IBD Adolescent Transition Clinic
Out-patient clinic for patients with IBD run with the Gastroenterologists at Alder Hey are seen in a multi-disciplinary environment before coming into the adult clinic
Liver Clinic
Patients with specific liver complaints/diagnoses are investigated and managed. This is the main ‘Liver Clinic’ with 5 Medical Consultants, a Nurse Consultant, 3 SpRs and Specialist Nurse. All patients are pre-investigated before they attend the clinic and there is also an emphasis on standardized protocols and education.
Chronic Liver Disease Management Clinic
Nurse led clinic for patients with chronic liver diseases such as PBC, autoimmune hepatitis who require management of their disease and monitoring of their immunosuppressant medication.
Viral Hepatitis Treatment clinic
Nurse led clinic offering treatment for patients with hepatitis C or B. This is a joint clinic with the specialist nurses in Infectious Diseases.
Pre-assessment HPB-Liver clinic
This is a service that works along side the gastroenterology unit and the specialist nurses. Patients are assessed, consented and sent for necessary investigations prior to day case procedures such as ultrasound guided liver biopsy and ERCP.
Haemachromatosis Clinic
Nurse led service on the Gastroenterology Unit, offering counselling and screening of patients and their families with genetic haemachromatosis, as well as running a regular venesection programme.
Transplant Clinic
Nurse led clinic for patients who have undergone a liver transplant. The clinic offers support for the patients as well as regular monitoring for side effects related to their immunosuppression medication.
Joint Viral Hepatitis / Haematology Clinic
Joint clinic with the Haematology department in the management & treatment of patients with hepatitis C and haemophilia.

Outpatient Clinics: 18 (incl 5 nurse-led) service 4000 new and 11000 review appointments per annum. All new appointments are seen within 7 weeks of referral currently and we are actively managing this with the aim of getting waiting times down to 4 weeks. We are developing community network links to help manage chronic diseases.
Endoscopy: approx 14,000 (of whom 4,000 inpatient, 10,000 OP or Day case)
Our diagnostic waiting times are all under six weeks.
Courses run by National Training Centre: 37 (of which 22 “Hands on Endoscopy” including ERCP and EUS)
