Moving to the new Royal

Our move to the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital starts on Wednesday 28 September.

This is a phased move, which will take place across 24 days – meaning that some services will still be running from the old Royal Liverpool University Hospital, until their move date. You can find out how to get to the new Royal here.

How to get to the Royal

By Foot

The Royal is less than a mile from Lime Street Station and can be walked to directly up London Road. There are several bus stops serving all directions around the road perimeter of the hospital with others within a short walk.


There are cycle routes nearby. Cycle parking facilities at most entrances to the hospital including the front and rear entrances and to the Linda McCartney Centre. The site is regularly patrolled by Security staff and there is CCTV covering all the points.


There is a variety of bus services which operate from the surrounding areas and drop off at the hospital or within walking distance. To find information about times and services please contact the Merseytravel Traveline on 0871 200 2233 or visit the Merseytravel website at:


The hospital is about one mile from Lime Street Station which serves the main city line. Taxis are readily available from the station and Merseytravel (see details above) can provide details of bus services linking local train stations and the hospital.


The National Express Coach Station is less than one mile away from the hospital.


The hospital is well signposted throughout the city and is located on a main road. A drop off point is situated at the front of the hospital but there is no parking available.

From the M62

The hospital is about three miles from the M62 and is signposted.

From the Mersey Tunnels

Queensway – turn left at the roundabout at the tunnel exit and immediately bear right into the filter lane and turn right at the traffic lights. Follow signs for the hospital and visitor/disabled parking.

Kingsway – follow the exit slip road onto the main carriageway keeping in the left hand lane. At the traffic lights bear left and follow signs for the hospital and visitor/disabled parking.
