Generous Patient thanks St Paul’s Eye Research Centre

St Paul’s Eye Research Centre delighted to have received a donation of £3,400 from former patient Alex Henderson and his golfing friends.

Alex, 69, made the Eye Tumour Research Fund his charity during his year as Captain of Cottesmore Veterans Golf in 2017.

Alex has had quite a journey.

“I was identified during a routine eye test as having a possible tumour in my left eye. After treatment at East Surrey Hospital and Clatterbridge Hospital, I returned to the Royal Liverpool Hospital in 2016 due to hemorrhaging in my left eye.

"I have been treated by Professor Heimann and thankfully the eye is stable and being monitored. During these treatments I had been impressed with the care I had been given by The Eye Research Centre at Liverpool and therefore decided to make the Eye Tumour Research Fund my Charity of the Year.

"I unfortunately could not play golf for most of the 2017 season because of a golfing but my captaincy year was however successful and I raised £3400 for the charity.

"I am also back playing golf!"

Alex says he hopes the money will support the research into improving eye tumour diagnosis and treatment.
