R Charity hosted a spectacular lunch with the Liverpool FC legend Jan Molby, with the money they raised going towards new equipment for the urology department.
The lunch, hosted at Marco Pierre White’s restaurant Wheeler’s of St James’s, saw Jan – or as he’s otherwise known, ‘Great Dane’ - accompanied by fans for a sumptuous two course meal.
Jan had this to say about the event:
“It was a pleasure to be a part of R Charity’s Sportsman’s Dinner on Friday. The Royal Hospital is a place filled with skilled professionals and equipment that we may all really need at some point in our lives - The Royal saves lives, so to support the charity raising funds to buy more lifesaving equipment to help more patients is great. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of it, and I hope that those who came along had a fantastic afternoon.”
The lunch raised £8000 for R Charity, which will go towards purchasing a transrectal ultrasound biopsy – or TRUB - machine for our urology department. This machine will deliver a targeted and precise biopsy of the prostate, diagnosing patients quickly and easily.
Lauren Davies, head of fundraising at the Royal, said:
“It was such a pleasure to work with a legend like Jan. The money we’ve raised from this event means so much to us and will mean even more to future patients whose lives will be massively improved by our new equipment.”
