All about us
Our heroic staff are at the heart of R Appeal. Time and again, they give their time and commitment to raise funds for the new Royal. Here's what our staff have been up to so far this year:
Adelphi Afternoon Tea Dance
Special thanks goes to the One for All Fundraising Team, Marie Dewhurst, and Matt Gardner who successfully organised an Afternoon Tea Dance at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel on Saturday 13 January.
Guests were treated to a delicious afternoon tea specially prepared by the wonderful chefs at the hotel, and entertained by an afternoon of sequence and ballroom dancing. There were fantastic dance demonstrations from the cup winning duo Ben & Beth and Ashleigh & Dean. The afternoon catered for everyone from dancers with passion to those with 2 left feet. The amazing teaching skills of Keeley Harrison from Keeley Harrison School of Dance had all our guests on the dancefloor tearing up a strip and shaking what your mother gave ye. The event raised an amazing £1,894.21 for the mammography suite in the New Royal.
After the success of the event Rose, Margie and Gail would like to thank everyone who came along to support the event. Rest assured that a future Tea Dance is being planned. We’ll keep you posted of the date, follow us here to get updates.
"I would really encourage anyone to think of R Charity when they are doing an event or even just getting friends together."

Stephen Chand, Data Officer
A Data Officer in Clinical Research here at the Royal Hospital. A friend of mine took part in a skydive at Black Knights a few years back. I was then reminded of the event when I saw posters in and around the hospital asking for people to get involved. I signed up and took part in a 15,000 ft skydive on Saturday 14 August for R Charity.
It was a pretty amazing experience and I lived to tell the tale so I consider it to be a great success. Staff for the trust as well as family and friends were very generous and I raised over £530 in sponsorship for the new appeal.
I am keen to get involved in any future events that R Charity has planned and would encourage other staff members to do the same.

Marie Dewhurst, Development Manager
I am a nurse by background and have worked in the NHS since 1982. I am currently working as a Development Manager in the New Hospital Office.
I have always actively supported R Charity, but since working on the new build I have seen for myself the impact charitable funding can have. It can be the difference between having a Smart TV in each of the single bedrooms or not. It can help set up a lovely seating space for relatives, or help purchase some beautiful artwork.
I have done numerous fundraising events: abseils, runs, ladies lunch days. I have organised many events at my own home: Scouse in our house, afternoon tea, etc. We have also recently organised a Strictly Tea Dance in the Adelphi.
As a member of the Hospital Choir we have participated in many events: 12 days of Christmas, tickle the ivories, concerts in Sefton Palm House, fundraising for the Breast and Haematology Units.
When you help support a cause that is close to your heart you get a buzz and a sense that you are giving something back.
Here's what our heroic staff say about R Charity:

R Charity : a registered charity
R Charity (Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust Charitable Funds) is a registered charity, charity number 1047988. Registration with the Charity Commission means we must maintain clear accounting records and prepare annual accounts. We must also prepare a trustees’ annual report to accompany our accounts. This is very important to us as it ensures all our activities and finances are transparent and scutinized by the Charity Commission as well as a independent auditor.
Details of the charity can be found on the Charity Commission website here. Simply click on the Search for a Charity page and then enter the charity number (1047988) into the Charity Search Box and you will be guided to the R Charity details.
