"He goes the extra mile for patients to ensure they get first class care."

Jane Young, Head Orthoptist

St Paul’s Orthoptist, John McBride, has won 1st Prize in the Trust’s Allied Health Professional (AHP) Star John McBride, OrthoptistAward.

Wednesday 14th October is Allied Health Professional (AHP) Day and to celebrate their work within the Trust the AHP Star Award was launched.  AHPs Day is an opportunity for AHPs to come together, celebrate being part of the AHP family and share best working practices.

The orthoptist team within St Paul’s nominated John for the work he does for patients.

John’s Manager, Jane Young, had this to say about him, “John is a dedicated member of our team. He is always cheerful, helpful and nothing is too much trouble.  He goes the extra mile for patients to ensure they get first class care.  He has taken on extended roles now confidently performing YAG laser.  He has arranged many teaching sessions for undergraduate orthoptists, pre-reg optometrists and our ophthalmology trainees. ”

John said, “It was a real honour to be nominated and a complete surprise that I won. I am passionate about the work I do and the difference it makes for patients.  I would like to thank everyone that voted for me.”

103 names were entered into this year's AHPs Star Award, so the competition was tough.  The news of John's win was very well received by all of John's colleagues in St Paul's.

The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal. If you have a hospital appointment then you should attend as planned.
