Medical Electives are students who come and work at the Trust and learn more about having a job as a doctor or a health professional.
This page has information about the different opportunities for Medical Electives in the Trust.
It also explains how to apply to become a Medical Elective.
We offer excellent opportunities for medical students from the United Kingdom and all over the world to undertake elective study within the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Duration of placement
Electives are from two to four weeks of study dependent on the specialty. In special circumstances, a six week placement may be facilitated.
Visa applications - Important
Please be advised that all overseas students wishing to obtain a medical elective placement at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust must arrnage their own visa. The Trust is unable to provide students with a CAS number, but we will help by providing the student with a confirmation of placement (Subject to health clearance) letter.
An administration fee of £150 is charged per student for the elective placement. Please note that this fee is non-refundable if you choose not to proceed with your placement.
Code of conduct
Please note that whilst you are placed within the Trust, we expect the highest standards of discipline and behaviour. You should behave in a professional manner at all times; this includes smart attire, speaking to members of staff and patients in a respectful way and mobile phones must be switched off at all times. Failure to comply with our standards of professional behaviour will result in your immediate removal from the scheme.
You will be sent health forms to complete once your placement has been confirmed but before your start date. You must also, where possible send in translated immunisation documents. Please note that without this documentation, you will be asked to make an appointment with our occupational health centre upon your arrival to the UK, which will delay your ability to start with us.
Should you need to make an appointment please be advised that you cannot commence your placement until you have been cleared and be mindful that if you are booking flights and expect to start the placement the next day, you may not be able to as clearance my take up to two weeks once appointment has been attended depending on what tests need to be carried out.
We are currently able to accept elective students in the following specialties. This table is not exhaustive of what we offer so please enquire if there is a specialty you would like to observe in which isn't mentioned.
